The Socceroos brains trust led by Ange Postecoglou is hoping Socceroos captain, Mile Jedinak, may be ready to take part in the World Cup qualifying games against Honduras next month - despite only playing 45 minutes this season for Aston Villa

Jedinak was named in the preliminary 30-man squad today. Postecoglou has also stuck with the players who got the job done - just - against Syria with 22 of the 23 players originally selected in the AFC final tie, also selected for the inter-confederation tie. The only player omitted is Brad Smith due to an injury sustained in the home match v Syria.

Bailey Wright and Danny Vukovic are available after minor injuries saw them out of action. In addition to Jedinak, Postecoglou has also named Alex Gersbach, Ajdin Hrustic, James Jeggo, Awer Mabil, and Jamie Maclaren in his extended list.

“There are a couple of weeks before the group gets together so we will be monitoring the health and fitness of every player to make sure that the final twenty-three are available for what is going to be a challenging couple of games,” said Postecoglou.

“We feel that we are right on schedule with regards to our arrangements, logistics and intelligence for Honduras, and are comfortable that the work completed and decisions made so far will help us in our quest to qualify for Russia.

“A large, vocal home crowd in Sydney for the second leg is something that everyone involved with the squad is looking forward to,” concluded Postecoglou.

The Socceroos boss - who today was dubbed 'Ange Whingecoglou' in the latest swipe from the media - will confirm the final 23-man squad next week. The players will begin to assemble in San Pedro Sula from Sunday 5 November.

Tickets are available from Ticketek for the return leg on Wednesday 15 November at Stadium Australia. Prices start at $25 for adults with a restricted view.
